Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino 2006

Smooth and round, this red offers cherry, bitter almond, spice and woodsy notes. The tannins are dense, but this is balanced overall and lingers on the finish. Best from 2013 through 2022. (90 points, Bruce Sanderson, WineSpectator.com Daily Picks, 2011-05-31; $55)

Château Canon 2008, St.-Emilion, Bordeaux

Fresh and focused, with tangy black cherry, cherry pit and damson plum flavors laced with a faint herb note. Modest toast allows the finish to stay lively, with a nice minerality stretching it out. Just a touch shy on depth in the end. Drink now through 2012. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 5,000 cases made. (89 points, James Molesworth , WineSpectator.com Daily Picks, 2011-05-28; $80)
